I hope your labs are good, but if not, it may be further motivation to double down and do the work to be healthy. I wish you all the best!carondghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16106016169890937308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198051313002658924.post-50748028818921825842012-01-05T13:21:18.696-08:002012-01-05T13:21:18.696-08:00Thanks for this post, Caron. It's a very emotional issue for me. I am well past 300lbs. at this point. I've had a saying that I finally printed out in LARGE print and put in a display frame on my kitchen counter: "If hunger isn't the problem, then eating isn't the answer. ~Karen McCamley Dobies" It has actually helped having that visual to remind me that emotional- and eating-out-of-boredom eating is a really bad choice. You've written this at just the right time for me. I just have to hope that the labs I just did for my new doctor don't reveal what I've often feared. Meanwhile, I'll search this posting for ideas and inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and I wish you a happy and healthy 2012.Peggynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198051313002658924.post-44835898628931448672012-01-04T21:20:30.692-08:002012-01-04T21:20:30.692-08:00AWESOME! Or better!...Caron, you've never looked happier. Or better! You should be very proud of your achievement. I want my friends to live a long, healthy life. You are proof that it is possible to overcome significant challenges to improve your health.

However, you are so right that the decision to improve your diet and your health is internal and individual. No one however well meaning can talk you into it. It takes too much commitment to do it for anyone but yourself, and it's got to fit into your life because it's going to be a part of your life forever.

Our American food culture needs a serious adjustment. We need to reset expectations, offer reasonable alternatives and ways to make it easier for all of us. How many times have I heard someone praise a restaurant by saying, "It was great - the portions were huge!" What? This is ridiculous.

Bravo to the chefs willing to accommodate those of us who want to eat their wonderful creations, but in a healthier form. Please keep letting us know who they are in your blog. I'd willingly seek them out.Gayle F.http://www.falconvalleygroup.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198051313002658924.post-69332379521626257062012-01-04T15:04:21.357-08:002012-01-04T15:04:21.357-08:00High five, my friend. At least eating lots of plants and exercising do make you feel good, as well as keep the weight down. If I had never gotten so chubby I might not have the great blood pressure and solid workout habit that I have now.Robin Asbellhttp://www.robinasbell.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198051313002658924.post-19546266110414195522012-01-04T14:31:34.783-08:002012-01-04T14:31:34.783-08:00That's so great Caron!! It...I'm so proud of you and pleased for you. It's bringing a tear to my eye, actually. As women, we have the additional burden of the added weight our bodies are programmed to add on, even if we don't change a thing, including our exercise, we will gain each year. So, we have to resolve to work harder at being healthy and maintaining our newly acquired healthy eating habits.

One thing I have found is a helpful reminder. The Japanese say to eat to 80% full. Basically, you stop before you reach that "so full" stage. It gives your brain time to catch up to your body. Satiety takes 20 minutes to register. I could eat half a chicken in that time!

Eating better quality, seasonal foods is also more satisfying. And finally, setting goals that we can measure. "eat better" is so easy to fail at or not notice. But "incorporate one new grain dish per month." That you can try, enjoy, count, measure and accomplish.

Mazel tov, my friend! You are looking so well and so happy. Keep up the good work!JacquelineChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13731070890266962010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198051313002658924.post-13811687622743465022012-01-03T16:17:31.992-08:002012-01-03T16:17:31.992-08:00Congrats on your success so far, Caron! You might find these websites of great value. www.bloodsugar101.com and the companion blog, Diabetes Update http://www.bloodsugar101.com/

They are my go-to sites for rational, informed information and interpretation of the best diabetes research and treatments, because so much of the diabetes information is tainted by commercial interests. Since 2006, using a Real Food, naturally low carb paleo-ish way of eating, I've been able to avoid diabetic medications as well as maintain excellent BG control.Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17033443643442246531noreply@blogger.com
